Saskatchewan PA Program Details

Mission Statement

To train professionals who excel in clinical care, champion collaborative team-based practice, and provide compassionate healthcare, particularly to underserved and vulnerable populations

Year 1: Foundations

The first year takes place primarily on campus, focusing on building foundational medical knowledge and basic clinical skills:

• Medical Foundations: Three blocks integrating anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
• Clinical Skills: Hands-on labs for exams, history-taking, and procedures.
• Professional Practice: Studies in healthcare ethics, law, and leadership.
• Research Methods: Initial training in data analysis and evidence-based medicine.

Year 2: Clerkship

• Clinical Rotations: 48 credits of supervised medical and surgical rotations.
• Rural Focus: Practical placements emphasizing underserved Saskatchewan communities.

Capstone Project

Saskatchewan PA Admission Requirements

Status

Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada

Undergraduate Study

A four year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university awarded prior to entry into the program

GPA Requirement

Cumulative weighted average of at least a 75% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (e.g., 60 credit units)

Coursework

Completion of 3 credit units in each of these areas with a minimum grade of 75%:

• Indigenous Studies
• Human Anatomy
• Human Physiology

Previous Experience

No previous healthcare experience is required to apply.

1. Online Submission

Apply through the USask Graduate Portal with transcripts, a personal statement, and three references.

2. First File Review

Committee verifies the 75% GPA, course prerequisites, and Canadian citizenship requirements.

3. Supplemental Assessment

Selected applicants complete a mandatory online written and video assessment measuring soft skills.

4. Interviews

Top-scoring candidates move forward to a formal, structured panel interview.

5. Final Selection

Admissions ranks files using GPA, interviews, references, and a diversity index for offers.
