Part of the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University is launching its Physician Assistant Program this September 2026 with an expected inaugural cohort of 30 students.

This is a 2 year Master’s Program that is in-person, full time, with medical foundations in first year, and clinical rotations in second year.

Graduates are qualified to challenge the PA Certification Exam (PACE) and obtain their Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) designation.

About Western’s MPAS Program

About

Canada's newest PA program, and the first to offer a Master’s Degree for PA Studies. This program is run out of the Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. 30 seats, 2 years, and no prerequisite courses or health care hours required to apply.

The PA Program was founded in 2026.

TEACHING MODALITIES
  • Case-based learning, simulation, standardized patients

  • Shared sessions with undergraduate medical students.

Capstone Project

Students complete a quality improvement or research project spanning Year 1 to Year 2.

Year 1: Pre-Clerkship

Coursework completed within the first year of the PA Program. Year 1 is delivered on campus and accessible by public transit.

This is in-person, on campus and full-time.

Year 2: Clerkship

LOGISTICS & TRANSIT

Year 2 placements may be geographically dispersed; a personal vehicle is required.

Transition to Practice

Final clerkship block consolidating clinical learning and preparing students for the PA Certification Exam (PACE) and entry into practice.

Capstone Project

Graduate-level quality improvement or research project applying evidence-based medicine to a real clinical question
