Jaimin is an incoming McMaster PA Student. She is originally born and raised in St. Thomas and attended McMaster University for her undergrad in Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc) in Biology and Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour. She gained acceptance into McMaster’s PA program, and is part of the Class of 2023!

Work/Life Experience:
I applied only to McMaster’s PA program since I had no direct healthcare experience. Throughout undergrad, I volunteered for Ronald McDonald House and Juravinski Cancer Centre, and worked as a Campus Tour Guide Leader and Campus Events Assistant.
Fun Facts about Jaimin:
I love to spend time outdoors, particularly at my family cottage in Muskoka with friends or on vacation somewhere warm and exciting!
I spend way too much time on spontaneous road trips and watching the sun set.
I’m obsessed with DIY iced coffee and my pet Chihuahua, Reese!
Why I decided to pursue the PA profession
I’ve always known I was interested in healthcare but was never quite sure in what capacity. After being in a serious car accident during high school, I was exposed to some of the less common (but evident nonetheless) drawbacks of the Canadian healthcare system – long wait times, sometimes incohesive teamwork, short patient interactions, etc.
Becoming a PA gives me an opportunity to help directly address these issues and work to improve them!
I also LOVE the option for lateral mobility and the lifelong learning that Physician Assistants do.
What I think helped me stand out on PA Admissions
Prior to the application cycle I took a lot of time for introspection, really worked on improving my physical and mental health and learned more about who I really am/who I hope to become.
I think the self-awareness and confidence I gained from that process was evident in my application, making my answers unique and showing the admissions committee what I stand for.
My tips for Canadian Pre-PA Applicants
My best advice to pre-PA students is to figure out your “why” and don’t lose sight of it throughout the application process.
If it doesn’t work out the first time and becoming a PA is truly what you want, be flexible and willing to try again!
Passion, consistency and strong work ethic are admirable and so evident on an application. Plus, nothing worth having comes easy.
