  1. Familiarize yourself with the program:

    • Research the University of Toronto's PA program thoroughly. Understand its mission, values, curriculum, and any specific areas of focus or requirements. This will help you align your experiences and responses with the program's goals.

    • Attend the UofT PA Information Sessions: Attending a PA program information session can prepare you for a panel interview by providing insights into the program's values, curriculum, and expectations, allowing you to tailor your responses to align with their specific requirements. Additionally, information sessions often include opportunities to ask questions, enabling you to gain a deeper understanding of the program.

    • Speak with current UofT PA students: Speaking with current PA students can help you prepare by providing firsthand insights into the program's culture, coursework, clinical experiences, and the PA Supplemental Application process itself, allowing you to gain valuable perspectives and tailor your responses accordingly. Additionally, current PA students can offer advice on how to effectively showcase your qualifications, navigate the app, and demonstrate a genuine passion for the profession.

  2. Reflect on your experiences: Take the time to reflect on your healthcare, academic, and volunteer experiences. Consider significant moments, challenges faced, lessons learned, and the impact these experiences have had on your personal and professional growth. This reflection will help you articulate your experiences effectively when the essay questions are provided.

  3. Strengthen your writing skills: Effective written communication is crucial for a successful supplemental application. Work on improving your writing skills by practicing writing essays, personal statements, or reflections.

  4. Review common essay themes: While you may not have the specific essay questions, you can anticipate certain common themes that are often addressed in PA applications. For example, topics related to your motivation for pursuing the PA profession, experiences working in healthcare, challenges faced, teamwork, or ethical dilemmas. Familiarize yourself with these themes and reflect on how you would approach them.

  5. Develop your personal narrative: Consider the story you want to convey through your application. What makes you unique and sets you apart from other applicants? Identify your core values, experiences, and aspirations that align with the PA profession and the University of Toronto's program. This will help you craft a compelling and authentic narrative when responding to the essay questions.

  6. Stay updated with current healthcare topics: Read journals, articles, or news related to healthcare issues facing Canadians. This knowledge can be valuable when formulating your responses and demonstrating your understanding of the profession.

Remember, while you can prepare in advance, it's important to tailor your responses to the specific essay questions provided in the PA written supplemental application. Once you receive the questions, take the time to carefully read, analyze, and respond to each prompt thoughtfully and authentically.
